AES Students Blast Off at STEMShot!

Albany Elementary School 4th grade students competed on Saturday, October 24th in the second annual STEMShot paper rocket competition, hosted by Western Kentucky University and Green River Regional Educational Cooperative.  Students were challenged to design and build rockets using very specific guidelines based on the S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) principles. Five elementary, middle, and high schools participated, and were represented by 22 teams. The competition included a head to head single elimination match and greatest distance launched using compressed air. Despite going against high schoolers and very exacting design rules, Albany Elementary came out on top by taking away 7 out of the 8 award spots. All five AES teams placed. Congratulations to the AES teams for all the hard work, great sportsmanship, and setting the standard so high for next year!   Below are their rankings:

Pink Unstoppables - 1st place in the head to head and 3rd for greatest distance - team consisted of Patrick Bulubenchi, Lexy Freeman, and Jase Sohm.

Awesome Wildcats - 2nd place in the head to head and 5th for greatest distance - team consisted of Tanner Marcum, Ryan Rains, and Jacob Ferrill.

Hotrod Rockets - 3rd place in the head to head and 4th for greatest distance - team consisted of Owen Martin, Andrew Whittenburg, and Jared Brown.

ICBM's - 5th place in the head to head and 2nd for greatest distance - team consisted of Lucas Brown, Aysha Sutton, and Landree Moons.

Fire Blasters - 6th place in the head to head and 1st for greatest distance - team consisted of Sandrea Bell, Mckenzee Smith, and Steele Burchett.
