Students in Mrs. Crystal Marcum's 4th grade class at AES recently completed their unit on "How to Eat Fried Worms." After the students were introduced to the book, they received a treat of chocolate pudding, crushed oreos, and gummy worms. Then they were asked to consider whether or not they would eat 15 worms for $289.39 (the modern equivalent now to $50.00 then). At the conclusion of the unit, students created their own recipes for worms. Students were provided with cooked "worms" (hot dogs...no worms were harmed) and allowed to try them with various condiments. Mrs. Kathleen Gregory also participated in the activity by teaching hand washing before students ate the "worms."
