Stockton Speaks SoKY ECCA

Posted On: Friday, September 13, 2019

Current Clinton County School Board Member Leslie Stockton spoke to our Clinton and Cumberland County students currently enrolled in the Business Academy and Medical Arts Academy at Southern Kentucky Early College and Career Academy on Friday, September 13, 2019 about the opportunities available to them in healthcare and business.

She encouraged them to consider their current and future priorities and to take an assessment of the way they spend their time, resources, and energy. She also spoke to them about the importance of mental health and seeking help and support as they navigate high school and early adulthood.

Leslie also covered the various career options available to students in Healthcare and Business and encouraged our students to take advantage of every opportunity. She also spoke with them about identifying mentors and people who would support them in their journey, as well as potential obstacles to success.

Leslie’s own career path began as a student in the Clinton County School District. After graduating from CCHS, she became an ER/ICU travel nurse and worked in various nursing practices (Hospice, Home Health, Critical Care, etc.) before transitioning into her current role as a Senior Physician Recruiter. She currently recruits and hires Emergency Medicine Physicians for hospitals throughout the country. She highlighted her own personal journey and shared with our students how education can be the bridge to their future...taking them anywhere they want to go.

Billie Frye, Medical Arts Academy Instructor, stated “I think our students benefitted greatly from hearing Leslie’s personal story of how she achieved her success and the obstacles she was able to overcome. She also stressed the importance of seeking help from others whether that be educational or support services from other people within the community. The students were actively engaged throughout her presentation and had very intellectual and considerate questions to ask of her.”
